Most college seniors Thursday were celebrating one of their last day of classes, the Kean University softball team was entering its first round game in the NCAA Tournament against DeSales. Both teams were riding a bit of a momentum wave coming into the game.

Sophomore Courtney Yard had the hot hand striking out six Bulldogs in the game but in the top of the seventh, a Taylor Kelly infield single pushed Kayla Adanalian across the plate. The Cougars did not have a response and the Cougars dropped the first game. The only run was scored on nine hits.

Bulldogs starter D.J. McCauley held Kean to three hits in the ball game. Katie Schuh had two of them and Sandra Binkiewicz had the other. McCauley struck out five batters and walked for en route to her 18th win of the season.

Kean takes on the College of Staten Island in an elimination game Friday at Montclair State. Montclair State dropped the College of Staten Island 7-3.
