Salisbury University spoiled the home opener for Kean as they defeated the Cougars, 21-13.

Salisbury (2-1) set the tone right away as quarterback Brandon Lewis hit wide receiver Josh McClain on a 52-yard touchdown pass.

This lead would not last very long as Kean (0-2) would respond on their first drive of the game. After a long play got them down near the goal line, running back Brian Matthews scored from one-yard out.

Both teams would add seven points in the second quarter and the visiting Sea Gulls went into the half with a 14-13 lead. Defense would shine in the second half as the third quarter saw no points scored for either team.

Running back Brian Legue would score the decided deciding touchdown for Salisbury after they marched 83-yards on the drive. This would put the Sea Gulls up for good, 21-13. Kean would have had a chance to answer, but was unable to. Missed opportunities were the name of the game.

“We had opportunities in the red zone and came away with zero points,” head coach Daniel Garrett said. “It’s a game of inches and angles and we were not consistent enough in our execution.”

Wide receiver Ben Guarino led the Cougars with eight catches for 123 yards. Running backs Brian Matthews and Damian Corredor both scored a touchdown in the game. Sea Gulls’ quarterback Brandon Lewis completed nine of 12 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns.
