Greek Life and the Center for Leadership and Service will be holding the annual hazing videos at the University Center’s Greek Lounge at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 16.

Although Kean University has no reported history of over the top hazing abuse, the viewing is a requirement for all prospective members of Greek Letter Organizations.

“We do it for policy reasons,” said Alex Louis, the Assistant Director of The Center for Leadership and Service. “We’ve been doing it as long as Greek life has been in existence at Kean, twenty or so years.”

Attendance of the event is only for those prospective members that have previously been reviewed and approved of meeting the criteria of a 2.5 grade point average.

This meeting gives prospective members the information needed to keep them safe during the hazing process as well as to get them acquainted with Louis and other Center for Leadership and Service staff in case the need to report any problems that may occur.

The Center for Leadership and Service will also be holding a Student Group Leadership Workshop on Greek Life 101 after the hazing video at 5 p.m. at Involvement Center, Room 303 of University Center.

This workshop is for chapter presidents and executive board members only and will have an emphasis on building a stronger sense of community on campus. Topics being discussed will include developing relationships with Greek advisors and changing campus culture as well as the impact alcohol has on campus culture.

Additional information can be found on both events by contacting the Center for Leadership and Service.
