Barnes and Noble comes to college

You may have noticed some changes going on at Kean University’s bookstore. Kean has teamed up with Barnes and Noble Bookstore to better meet the needs of students when it comes to course books, advanced technology, school and dorm supplies, general reading books, and much more.

One of the biggest issues Kean students have is high textbook prices. While book publisher pricing has gone up, Barnes and Noble College Booksellers have strived to lower the prices by offering digital, rental, and used textbooks. John Cusick, manager of Kean’s bookstore, describes the changes that have been taking place regarding book pricing.

“Students can save up to 60% with our digital textbooks (eTextbooks)”, he said, “a few years ago we started our hugely successful Rental program where students save over 50%”.

All eTextbooks are read using the free e-Reader programs which are downloaded to either a PC or Mac. This is a convenient alternative to lugging around heavy books. Also, the use of eTextbooks provides tools that enhance learning and organizational skills. eTextbookscan also be read on the Nook Study.

In addition to keeping up with the technology, Kean is also supporting a worthy picture of the what the future holds. By constructing a Barnes and Noble at Kean, Cusick notes that this will boost the University’s image for future students.

“When prospective students and parents visit the campus, they see the Barnes and Noble brand and they are assured of a quality school bookstore,” said Cusick.

Barnes and Noble College Booksellers manage over 650 University bookstores. When the construction on Green Lane of the Barnes and Noble bookstore is completed, Kean’s bookstore will move there. The new bookstore will offer a café and plenty of seating. The planned completion for the new bookstore is 2014.
