On April 19th members of different sororities and fraternities gathered together to play a medley of games to help bond and see which sex is the stronger sex. Battle of the Sexes was hosted by the ladies of the Alpha chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha- Latin Sorority, Inc.

Kean Junior, Kalinivel Melo is a therapeutic recreation major and also a member of the Alpha chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha-Latin Sorority, Inc. Melo felt that hosting battle of the sexes was very important because of the benefits people gain from it. “It’s important to let loose especially with finals season coming up. It’s also important to interact with people outside of our organizations.” Melo stated.

Battle of the Sexes is a tradition inside the greek community  that has been going on at Kean University for many years. This event is used to bring together students involved in different fraternities and sororities to unite, have fun, and show people who aren’t involved in greek life a good time.

“We wanted to bring the greek community and people who aren’t in greek life together. We just wanted people to have a fun night and release some stress.” Melo continued.

Throughout the night the members of greek life that attended were split on each side of the room to make it girls versus guys. They competed in a variety of different games to see which gender would win the event. Some of the various games included Balloon Battle, where the players would have to pop all their team balloons before the other team, and the cookie game, where members would have to put a cookie

on their forehead and try to get it in their mouths without using their hands.

Even people who aren’t involved in Greek life were invited to participate in the games. Melissa Rojas, Kean Senior, Psychology major, and ASL minor, is not in a sorority but was pleased when she was able to join in on the fun. “I enjoyed the game i took apart in playing. It was fun and I felt included even though i’m not in greek life.” Rojas said.

Madi Smith, Kean sophomore and bio health professions major, enjoyed her time participating in battle of the sexes as a newly inducted member of Delta Phi Epsilon. “I like it a lot. Being a part of greek life is like having a family outside of your family.” Smith said.

After a fun, eventful night of playing many games and sharing many laughs, in the end it was the men who won Battle of the Sexes with a score of 5-2. Nu Sigma Phi member Will Horner was very pleased that that the boys won the night. It “felt great to secure a win for my team.” Horner said.

Stephen Gibki, another member of Nu Sigma Phi, enjoyed his night of bonding with members of different sororities and fraternities. It was a “great night of brining guys and girls together for some friendly competition.” Gibki stated.
