As the leaves change color around campus, so too will runners in tomorrow’s Nathan Weiss Memorial Cougar Color 5k Race.

Runners will be splattered with rainbow-colored cornstarch as they make their way throughout the campus starting at 9 a.m., followed by food, face-painting and live music for the Cougar Fall Festival.

Although online registration is now closed, on-site registration will be available from 7 to 8 a.m. in Downs Hall. Registration at this time will cost $40 per person or $150 for a team of five.

All proceeds of the race will go to graduate student scholarships and research in the health sciences, education and other fields to honor the memory and work of Dr. Nathan Weiss, who served as president of Kean College of New Jersey, now Kean University, for 20 years.

“The Cougar Color 5K,” said Dean of the graduate college Jeffery Beck in a statement, “promotes health, wellness and enjoyment, while advancing graduate education in New Jersey through the educational and research opportunities for full- and part-time graduate students studying at Kean.”

The race starts in the Vaughn Eames parking lot where the post-race fall festival will also take place. There will be a costume contest before the race and prizes for the top three male and female runners in five age categories.

The Kean Hall lot several lanes in the Vaughn Eames parking lot have been closed since yesterday and will remain so until 11:30 a.m. tomorrow to accommodate for the festivities, according to Kean police.

Newbie runners and seasoned athletes are invited to wear their best tutus and superhero costumes for the race, but be aware that costumes will get powdered if running in the race.

Those wanting to look the most colorful should wear white. Organizers recommend bringing an old towel to sit on in your car so colors don’t rub off on seats. For more information, visit http://grad.kean.edu/cougarcolor/.
