Habitat for Humanity Needs Volunteers ASAP!
By: Alexandria Addesso
Kean University’s partnership with the Habitat for Humanity Group is currently seeking volunteers for the bus trip to Madison, New Jersey tomorrow April 27. The bus will be leaving the Vaughn-Eames parking lot an 8a.m. and will be returning to Kean at approximately 4 p.m.
“We’re working on houses,” said Jazmin Brooks the Service Specialist at Kean’s Center for Leadership and Service. “It is usually along the lines of paving concrete and laying dirt. Nothing too labor intensive.”
Habitat for Humanity is a not-for-profit organization as well as a Christian Ministry, which describes itself as “putting faith into action”. Although Habitat for Humanity is a faith based program it welcomes all volunteers and helps all people in need of housing regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or class. Habitat for humanity provides safe and affordable housing to people who otherwise wouldn’t have the means for such shelter. They build homes not only in the United States but also in Asia, Europe, Latin America, Canada and the Caribbean. Kean University has been partnered with Kean for quite some time now.
“We’ve been working with them for a while now,” said Brooks, “It’s nothing but a good opportunity for a lot of people. We’re creating a better lifestyle for people that are less fortunate than us.”
Although volunteers are needed space is limited and pre-registration is needed. To register go to the link https://kean.collegiatelink.net/form/start/12189. For more information you can also visit the Center for Leadership and Service in the University Center room 219.
