Hot Water In Residence Halls Shut Off Again
By Vera Boateng
Residents of the Burch, Rogers, Sozio and Bartlett Halls, also known as “the quads,” are currently having their steam shut off again today between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
As of now, this is the only day that it will be shut off. Last week, the steam shutdown shut off hot water and heat in all of the residential halls on Oct. 3, and in Burch Hall on Oct. 4.
The steam was expected to be turned back during the shut off last week at 4:00 p.m. on Oct. 4, but did not actually come back on until 9:00 p.m. that night. This was almost five hours after the time the residents were told that the steam was to be turned back on.
“It’s pretty annoying that they keep turning the water off, because we have to think about when we can have access to hot water,” said Sean Hamilton, a Burch Hall resident.
No reports of contaminates in the water were made. Emails sent to the students said that the steam shutdowns were due to a manhole near Burch Hall being fixed.
Quad residents are encouraged to use the facilities of friends in the New Upper and New Freshman Residence Halls, where the shutdown currently has no effect.
The residents can expect their hot water to be turned back by 5:00 p.m. this evening.
