Kean Ocean debuted their newest cafe Java Junction this week! The grand opening was held on Wednesday, March 31st, and included a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The cafe is located on the main floor of the gateway building on the Kean Ocean campus and is open to both students and faculty. Java Junction was created to be an on the go cafe that has coffee, sandwiches, and a variety of snacks!

It gives students the opportunity to grab a quick bite to eat between classes, so they can be fully engaged and ready to learn. Students were very excited about this new addition to the Kean Ocean Campus.

“For a long time with the COVID-19 pandemic, we didn’t have food in this building,” Maggie Lambusta, Junior at Kean Ocean said. “Now we finally do, and it’s definitely going to boost student involvement on campus and provide quality food to them between classes.”

The cafe was created by students enrolled at Ocean County College as a requirement for their hospitality, recreation, and tourism management program. HRTM is a degree program provided at Ocean County College for students looking to work in the hospitality, recreation & tourism industries.

Creating Java Junction was a way for students to get hands-on experience in their field, as the students themselves are fully responsible for keeping the cafe up and running. The cafe will be open Mondays through Thursdays from 4PM to 6PM. Come stop by for a bite to eat, and meet the students apart of the HRTM program!
