On October 10, 2026, Kean Football suffered a 31-20 loss against #13 ranked Christopher Newport. This was a decent showing by Kean, by becoming the opponent that has scored the most points against the Christopher Newport defense so far this season.
Kean’s offense put up six more points than they did last week and the ball moved a little better through the air. However, this was not enough to get the win as the Kean football team fell to 1-3 on the year.

Kean set the tone again, scoring first for the second straight week. Led by quarterback Ty Kline, the Cougars’ offensive drives gave the team plenty to hang their heads up high on. Kline ended the day with two passing touchdowns and even a rushing touchdown, showing his mobility time and time again.
The defense came up huge in the first quarter once again, coming up with multiple turnovers.
The Cougars got their first points off of Freshman safety Stevenson Memo’s interception and Kline and the offense took it from there. Memo would later be named the NJAC defensive rookie of the week for his performance against the Captains.
The second first quarter interception was picked off by cornerback Brandon Gomez giving the Cougars offense even more opportunity. Despite the hot start from the Cougars, the Captains kept their course and eventually tied things up quickly.
Christopher Newport, who traveled from Virginia, became another team that ran the ball well against the Cougars. The Captains running room combined for 277 yards, ran all over the field and gave their offense plenty to lean on. Despite being a ten point deficit for the Cougars at the end, neither team showed any signs of slowing down.
The Christopher Newport recipe for success was their run game led by running back Jordin Lennon as well as staying aggressive in the trenches.

This was a battle all day with the penalties as well for Kean. Nine penalties earned set the Cougars back a few times throughout the contest.
“It starts and ends with focus. Being locked in. Not letting a game or the moment get too big. Focus on doing your job,” Garrett said. “At the very best of each individual’s effort to the highest level of execution.”
The nine penalties and lack of discipline with stopping the run game made things easier for the Captains. Due to this, Garrett aims to have this team more prepared.
No matter the score, this Cougar team has shown resilience. With this team operating like one big family, it is easy to see why they keep competing.
The offensive line had its moments for the Cougars during the passing game, allowing for Kline to lead the game in passing yards, throwing 247 yards and also leading the game in rushing, rushing for 33 yards. However, the running game for Kean was almost non-existent other than their mobile quarterback, the run game left much to be desired.
Kean’s defense did an exceptional job at defending the pass in this game, but with Christopher Newport’s recipe of success being their run game, they prevailed with ease.
The Kean Cougars travel to Rowan this weekend on Saturday October 17th to face the Rowan “Profs” and that game is set for 1:00 p.m. kickoff at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium.
