Kean men’s volleyball pulls out a win during Clash at Kean

Over the weekend on Jan. 29 and Jan. 30, Kean men’s volleyball team hosted the Clash at Kean tournament, consisting of nine different teams competing over the course of two days.
The team kicked off the weekend Friday night with a win over Lasell College in a three set match. During the match it was evident that the team’s energy was at an all time high.
The bench culture of the team was responsible for bringing this high intensity to the court. Players on the sideline were sweating just as much as the players on the court through their implementation of verbal and physical cheers.
From penguin diving on the floor after a teammate aced a serve to tossing 5’6” freshman Zach Lynn into the air and catching him, the entire team was involved in the win.
On Saturday, Jan. 30 the team did not fair so well as they dropped two matches. In a tight battle with Rivier University, Kean lost the first two sets by only two points. With an increase of energy came a comeback as the boys pushed past Rivier to capture the third set. In the last set, Rivier pulled ahead to secure the win.
In the afternoon, Kean’s energy and confidence increased as they reached five sets with Marymount University. Tied at two sets each, the fifth set had a rocky start for the Cougars. With a 6-0 lead, it looked as if Marymount would have the match without much of a fight.
But the boys came back and a block by sophomore Shayron Taylor and freshman Chadd Jones tied the set up at 13-13. Marymount then pushed two points to seal the deal on the match.
As per the Kean University athletics website, 13 Cougars saw playing time over the course of the weekend with Senior Tommy Rosario being named as Kean’s representative on the all-tournament team.
Come out to support the Cougars at their next home match on Feb. 10th at 7:30 p.m. in Harwood Arena as they take on New York University.
