Super Bowl LIII between the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams on Feb. 3 was a disappointment for several Kean students who had higher expectations for the big game. For Patriots fans however, it was a joy.

“This year feels better than the other times because no one expected us to be there,” said Patriots fan John Miller, a senior majoring in criminal justice. “I thought the game was very good despite everyone saying otherwise.”

The Patriots captured a record sixth Super Bowl title, tying the Pittsburgh Steelers for most Super Bowl wins by defeating the Rams 13-3 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in what was the lowest scoring Super Bowl ever.

There weren’t any positive remarks about the halftime show because SpongeBob’s performance of “Sweet Victory” was interrupted with Travis Scott’s set.

“The halftime show was even worse than the game somehow,” said Bernadette Kelly, a junior majoring in communication studies. “I was excited when I thought they were going to play ‘Sweet Victory’ from that SpongeBob episode, but they really played us and didn’t.”

Kelly wasn’t the only one who felt this way either.

“I hated the halftime show and how they disrespected SpongeBob’s ‘Sweet Victory’ with Travis Scott and Sicko Mode,” Miller said.

Erin Pernas, a senior who majors in education and psychology, wasn’t impressed by Adam Levine taking his shirt off in the middle of the performance.

“To me, it seems like he took off his shirt to get a ‘wow’ factor and improve the performance in some way,” said Pernas.

Alex Rodrigues, a sophomore majoring in accounting has no interest in football, let alone the Super Bowl itself.

“The Super Bowl was very boring and the halftime show was terrible also,” said Rodrigues.
