Lamont Repollet, Ed.D, New Jersey’s current commissioner of education, will serve as the 18th president of Kean. The Board of Trustees unanimously passed a resolution tonight at their May 11 meeting to approve his appointment.
“I am delighted to lend my support one thousand percent to our next president, Dr. Lamont Repollet,” Board of Trustees Chair Ada Morell said.
Before becoming commissioner of education in 2018, Repollet served as the superintendent of the Asbury Park School District for four years, according to nj.gov. He was also a previous member of Kean’s Board of Trustees from 2011 to 2018
Lamont holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University, a master’s degree in educational administration from Kean, and a bachelor’s degree in communications from The College of New Jersey.
In a statement published by Kean News, Governor Phil Murphy described Repollet’s work in spreading and refining educational opportunities.
“During his tenure, he managed the expansion of pre-K across New Jersey, grew STEM opportunities for thousands of students, and facilitated changes to our statewide testing regime,” Murphy said. “He helped ensure the equitable distribution of hundreds of millions of dollars in new school aid. And, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, he has helped our educators and students navigate the challenges of transitioning to remote learning and worked diligently to ensure that our school communities continue to receive the supports they need.”
He also expressed his confidence in Repollet’s capabilities for the new position
“When I sought this office, I said my Commissioner of Education would fully understand the challenges students and educators face in their classrooms because I would choose someone who came from the classroom,” Murphy said. “Dr. Repollet has provided that leadership.”
Repollet will take over for Dawood Farahi, Ph.D., who has served as Kean’s president since 2003, at the end of his term on July 1.
“I wish Lamont and his family nothing but the best in his next endeavor, and know Kean University is in good hands with him at the helm,” Murphy said.
