Lights Out Cougars

On Feb. 21, 2024, Kean University’s Union campus experienced a power outage that affected the Freshman, Upperclassman, Bartlett, Rogers, Sozio, and Burch residence halls.
The power outage started at approximately 1:00 P.M. and lasted until about 10:00 P.M.
Students who were able to were encouraged to return home, and those who were unable to were transported and housed off campus.
Kennedi Anderson, a senior resident assistant for Burch Hall, spoke on how the school handled the situation.
“It never happened before, but they did all they could to make sure everyone had a place to stay,” said Anderson.
During the power outage, the school partnered with multiple companies, peer institutions, and government agencies to ensure students had transportation and a safe place to stay for the night.
“ The school had to transport students to different hotels for the night.” Said Anderson
Hilton in Meadowlands, Hilton Newark Airport, Union County Sheriff’s Office, and Union County Paratransit. This is just to name a few of the companies and government agencies that stepped in to help during the power outage.
