Mandy King Gets Signature Win Against Ramapo
By Ryan Gaydos
Although the Kean Cougars women’s basketball team cannot participate in any postseason play, it has not stopped the team from playing hard night in and night out. Wednesday, Kean defeated a very tough Ramapo team 70-60.
Senior Erika Jones absolutely went off on the Roadrunners. She dowsed Ramapo with 20 points and a remarkable 24 rebounds for her eighth straight double-double as Kean improves to 4-13 on the season
Sophomore AnnaRose Pierre contributed with 18 points as well.
It is a signature win for head coach Mandy King after having a tough year dealing with the NCAA imposed sanctions. King and her young squad have managed four wins in an up and down season.
The Cougars were helped with two lightning rods that have not always been there this season.
First, point guard Shay Collins hit a buzzer-beating layup to end the first half to put the Cougars up 35-34. Then, Meghan Williams had three three point shots in the second half before fouling out to help Kean win.
Although Ramapo got 15 points out of Alex Milne, the Roadrunners still shot a measley 35-percent from the floor, below the team’s 38-percent average. Ramapo drops to 13-6 on the season and 7-4 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play.
Kean returns to the floor Saturday against New Jersey City at the Harwood Arena at 1 p.m.
