Nicholas Cestaro Confident In His Team

The Kean University men’s lacrosse team has been rolling this season, winning 13 straight games, after dropping a tough season opener to Adrian College back on Feb. 23.

The team currently stands at a respectable 13-2 record, losing to Montclair State University in their most recent game by a score of 10-6, bringing the Cougars to only their second defeat.

The Cougars have been helped greatly by senior Nicholas Cestaro. The 5-10 defensive midfielder is in his final season and has played in all 15 games up to this point. A graduate of West Islip High School in New York, Cestaro has been an essential piece ever since joining the Kean team his freshman year. This season Cestaro has one goal and six assists, combining for seven total points. On the flip side, Cestaro has been a tough defensive presence, forcing 14 turnovers for opposing teams.

“I like what we’re doing out there,” Cestaro said. “We’re playing well and I’m just glad things have gone in our favor. It’s tough to win all of the close games and luckily we’ve been fortunate enough to come out on top in most of them.”

The Cougars have had a few close contests in their dominant 13-game winning stretch. The team held on to just beat Birmingham-Southern College 10-9 in a close game, also edging out SUNY Potsdam 11-10 in another close one-goal contest.

With one game left in the regular season Cestaro and the Cougars will look to end the season with a win, which would bring them to a 14-2 finish, a nice upgrade from their 10-6 regular-season record in 2012.
