No. 11 Ramapo Gets The Best Of Kean
By Ryan Gaydos
The Kean Cougars men’s basketball team had a very tough match-up against the No. 11 Ramapo Roadrunners and although the Cougars had a slight edge at half time, 37 second half points for Ramapo was the difference in the 70-55 loss for the Cougars.
Junior guard Michael Burton tried to breakout in the second half but missed a few open shots down the stretch. He would finish with 14 points but no one else would be in double figures around him.
Anthony Gibson had nine points, all of his points from beyond the arc. The Cougars lacked the presence down low with Xavier Fuller and Kyle Latorre combined for a total of 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Roadrunners surrounded the paint with its big men, leaving Latorre and Fuller helpless.
Kean was out matched by a veteran Ramapo team whose starting lineup included all seniors with all of the starting five reaching the double figure mark in points. Will Sanborn led Ramapo with 18 points including three deep three point shots, one of them shot from the “KU” logo on the floor of the Harwood Arena.
The Cougars have a chance to keep its head above water. Kean is currently sixth in the NJAC standings and if they remain there, Kean will earn a berth into the NJAC playoffs. The Cougars face off against New Jersey City University at the Harwood Arena at 3 p.m.
