The Kean women’s basketball team came out flat Saturday afternoon against New
Jersey City and it showed in the 64-55 loss against the Gothic Knights to drop the
team to 4-14 on the season overall.

The Gothic Knights played in a zone defense the entire game with center Deseree
Johnson following Cougars’ leading scorer Erika Jones around throughout the entire
game. However, Jones was able to score 14 points, grab 12 rebounds and block three
shots. Sophomore AnnaRose Pierre led Kean with 16 points.

What really hurt the Cougars were their inability to hit the inside shots. Jones
missed countless layups and easy shots inside the paint. She had eight offensive
rebounds but her lack of easy makes hurt the team. Overall, the Cougars shot 22
percent from the floor and any shooting day like that against any team would not
have given Kean a victory.

The Gothic Knights were able to make their shots in the win although turning the
ball over 17 times and losing the rebounding total 55-39.

The Cougars will try to bounce back as they hit the road to take on Rowan
Wednesday.
