PRSSA Launches #rockyoursocks Campaign
PRSSA members show off their fun socks in support of their new campaign

Winter weather can surely be brutal with brisk cold temperatures and heavy snowfall, but it is a much anticipated time as it indicates the beginning of the holiday season. However, this is not the case for the homeless.
This time of the year can cause more anxiety with the threat of cold weather.
Kean University’s new PRSSA chapter (Public Relations Student Society of America) has started a social media campaign in which students and professors are encouraged to take pictures of their funky and cool socks and upload them with the hashtag, rock your socks.
This is to encourage the donation of new pairs of socks for the homeless kids and teens at the Covenant House in Newark.
“The Rock Your Socks campaign is very important to the members of the PRSSA. There are a lot of people who are going to suffer through the cold this winter,” said Lauren Spain, Vice President of the PRSSA. “With the donations we will be receiving, we will be able to help a lot of homeless people and give them something that they don’t have; warmth.
The Covenant House is the “largest privately funded charity in the Americas” that seeks to provide kids and teens in need with love, support, and care. It has shelter facility homes in 27 cities among the United States, Canada, and Latin America.
This charity has helped well over 50,000 kids in need. The PRSSA has partnered up with the Covenant House in Newark and will be working closely with them for future projects.
This campaign has been the very first to take course by the Kean University PRSSA and it seeks to gain the support of its student body and faculty for a successful turnout.
“Rock Your Socks is a great opportunity for our chapter to reach out to the community,” said Stacey Cooney, the President of the KUPRSSA. “We’re all excited for this campaign.”
The PRSSA will be accepting donations until December 15th and aspires to have 200 pairs of socks donated. The Rock Your Socks Donation box can be found in the Communication Department in the CAS fourth floor room 402 if interested in making a donation.
