Kean University held a dog therapy session for students to relax in the midst of finals week this past Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in the University Center.

The event titled Fuel for Finals –hosted by Kean’s Student Government –had a large turnout. Present at the event were four, certified therapy dogs and their owners.

Because of the overwhelming number of students that were eager to see the dogs, the staff running the event allowed the students to enter the room with the dogs in groups of 15. Each group stayed with the dogs for about three minutes.

One of the therapy dogs that received a lot of attention from the students was an albino, boxer named Daisy.

“She is so cute,” said John Brooks, a public relations major Kean University. “I love her so much already.”

Daisy, who just turned two in March, was fervent to shower every student around her with affection. Another student whose heart she melted was Gabriella Caloiero, a communications media major at Kean.

“Daisy is too cute,” said Caloiero. “I’m really glad Kean was able to do something like this. It put a big smile on a lot of people’s faces.”

Daisy, as well as the other dogs, are certified through a company called Creature Comfort, a Pet Therapy organization located in Morris Plains, N.J.

The company provides between 175 and 200 monthly visits to nursing homes, public and private schools, libraries, hospitals, mental health care centers, hospices and veteran programs, according to the company’s website.
