Slow start impedes Kean
By Ryan Gaydos
The Kean men’s basketball team needed a win to move up two games in the New
Jersey Athletic Conference standings above New Jersey City and Rutgers-Camden.
The Gothic Knights did not let that happen as New Jersey City defeat Kean 66-55.
The Cougars did not show any kind of energy on the floor as the team had numerous
opportunities to spark a comeback and defeat the Gothic Knights. Junior Michael
Burton did his part scoring 26 points. However, Kean failed to box out in the zone
defense that they play and it cost them big as the Gothic Knights had 20 second-
chance points off 23 offensive rebounds.
Kean head coach Rob Kurzinsky tried to find the spark off the bench that the team
needed but no one came to play. Ryan Duffy forced two turnovers to get the lead
down to six points, but rebounding was a serious issue for Kean.
Kean has an important match-up with Rowan Wednesday on the road. The Cougars
beat Rowan by one point on Dec. 5. The Profs are sure to look for revenge against
Kean.
