Softball Meets DeSales In First Round Of NCAA Tournament

The Kean University softball team is meeting a familiar foe Thursday afternoon in DeSales University as the Cougars get set to play its first round game at Montclair State.

The Cougars and DeSales met March 24 as the Cougars traveled to DeSales University. The Cougars swept the Bulldogs 7-1, 14-5 with Courtney Yard and Casey Glatts both receiving wins.

Coming into this first round game, Kean and DeSales both are hot. DeSales is coming off a conference tournament championship victory and the Cougars are coming off a nice run in the New Jersey Athletic Conference championship losing to the top-seeded Montclair State by one run. If the Cougars are not thinking that they could see the Red Hawks again, they are wrong.

Yard has been pitching very well and the offense is getting hot as the weather continues to heat up. Meghan Cegielski is the reigning NJAC Player of the Week after going 10-for-17 last week. She is part of the key to the offense if the Cougars are going to make a run in the NCAA Tournament.

We all know that Yard can pitch the lights out but it is going to be the offense and the defense behind Yard that is going to win this game. Outscoring DeSales 21-6 in the beginning of the season is a good sign that Kean may take this one Thursday.
