Students get inside view on nominating a politician

The Union County Republican Committee held their nominating convention at the STEM Building on the Kean University Campus in Union, N.J. March 1.

Hosted by The Center for History, Politics, and Policy, the event allowed students’ to get an inside view into the specifics of nominating a politician.

According to Dr. Terry Golway, Director of The Center for History, Politics, and Policy, “Hosting important civic events such as party nominations at Kean University is great.”

Republican Congressman Leonard Lance and Republican Senator Thomas Kean Jr. were among the prominent figures in attendance. As a member of the Kean family, Senator Thomas Kean Jr. continues to follow his family’s Republican legacy.

At the convention Kean University Students’ had the chance to observe how candidates are nominated and receive the official Union County Republican Committee nomination for the primary election in June.

“I think it’s very interesting to hear the party’s future goals,” Said Abby Gallego, a Sophomore Psychology and Criminal justice major at Kean University.
