Students were not urged to go home in the event of the power outage that happened on Feb. 21,2018.
According to Karen Smith, Vice President of University Relations, the power outage was caused by a technical problem with the network on campus.
The university and PSE&G tried to fix the problem as swiftly as possible.
Those who were in the library came pouring out, curious to see if other buildings had been affected as well.
However, most classes continued to work through the power outage, as it had only lasted about ten minutes and affected the Center for Academic Success (CAS) and the library.
Kean’s Film Club, Cougars in Motion, happened to be in CAS during their regular meeting when the power went out.
“We [Cougars in Motion] were concerned because we need the internet and the projector to work for our meetings,” said Micaela Parra, a member of the club, in an email.
“The power outage was not a big deal, but it did cause the E-board to quickly change plans and move the meeting last minute. The club did a good job reorganizing and we had another fun meeting,” Parra stated.
Some students were let out early from their class due to the power outage.
“I was in my Juvenile Justice class when the power went out.” Diane Loegel, a senior student worker at the Center for International Studies, said.
“My class ended early because we usually have a PowerPoint to go with the class. [The
professor] tried to do it orally, but it didn’t work out as well, so he let us go early,” Loegel stated.
