The Kean University women’s soccer team held their own against Bard College in the first round of the ECAC Metro/Upstate Tournament.
The match was decided in penalty kicks with a 4-2 Bard advantage when it hosted Kean on Wednesday night.
After a 1-1 draw expanding through regulation, overtime and double-overtime Bard (8-8-2) rallied and took the game in a shootout.
Kean (10-7-3) struck first at 43:29 in the opening half. Jordyn Bronsky fed the ball to Angie Lopez who capitalized. Bard didn’t have an answer until the 65th minute when Dylan McDonald connected with Gina Lewis who reeled off a shot and found net, to even the score at 1-1.
Kean’s loss did not come with a lack of effort. The Cougars had 19 shots, nine on goal, to their opponent’s 11 shots and five on goal. They managed four corner kicks while Bard had three.
Cougar goalkeeper KC Nunez did well between the pipes, managing to save four of Bard’s five shots on goal.
This loss brings the Cougars’ season to a close.
