Alternatives besides the cafeteria

Even if students are hungry on campus, sometimes they just don’t want to make that trip to the cafeteria and want to explore other options.

Students don’t always have to depend on what is on campus with their Kean ID. Students can use their Cougar Cash or Flex Dollars at many off-campus dining areas such as the Tropicana Diner, Koki Buffet, Bonchon Chicken and Applebee’s.

Students always have alternatives for food on campus such as going to the restaurants that accept money provided by Kean, or ordering Chinese food or pizza.

Kean junior, Hennessy Cintron who is a psychology and criminal justice major said that she is planning to go to Miami for Spring Break and worked with her friends to not spend so much money eating out. She tried to eat at the cafeteria but unfortunately began to have stomach issues and went to the hospital. The doctor informed her that when she ate out she had gotten a lot more nutrients than when she ate at the cafeteria.

Cintron suggests to eat out more, especially with Cougar dollars.

“I understand you can only get things like Bonchon and Applebee’s and Trop but there are different things on the menu rather than just going to the cafe,” said Cintron.

Moreover, one could also save money by going to a nearby supermarket and buying food that would last a month. One can even cook in the kitchen dorms. Not only could one make healthy meals, but it beats having to go out all the time to the cafeteria.
