Emotional support animals are animals that someone uses to help them calm down when they are experiencing anxiety or panic.  Rather than suffer through their problems, a students can turn to a nice cuddly creature to help calm their nerves.

At Kean, however, emotional support animals are not allowed on campus.  Many students believe that if emotional support animals were allowed on campus, student moral would definitely be boosted.

“I would love to have an emotional support animal on campus,” said Ashley Acupina, junior. “I have a dog at home and she always helps me calm down. It would be even better if I could have her here at school with me.”

For those who worry about allergies to pets, the campus could dedicate one building to having emotional support animals and those with allergies would not have to stay in that building.

“I think it makes sense,” said Roman Bellanger, junior. “I mean, we already allow service animals on campus, why not just dedicate a building to students who need animals on campus? It’s literally just that easy.”

College can be a very stressful and anxiety filled time for students. Most students handle their anxiety and stress with things such as breathing exercises or even doing yoga.

However, having emotional support animals would benefit many students that need help with dealing with mental illnesses.  As well as boosting the overall moral of students on campus.
