“Fades for AIDS” helps raise money for AIDS research

If you happened to walk by Downs Hall on September 12, you were sure to hear the sounds of clippers buzzing and beats blasting. The Center for Leadership and Service teamed up with Lambda Sigma Upsilon for their annual “Fades for AIDS” event.

The event lasted from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and featured local barbers giving haircuts for $6.00 with a portion of the proceeds going to AIDS research.

“AIDS research is our philanthropy,” said member Joseph Jerez.

Jerez also said that the event was held in the honor of one of Lambda Sigma Upsilon’s founding fathers who passed away from AIDS.

Founded in 1979, Lambda Sigma Upsilon was created by the founders because they believed minority groups in universities were not getting the attention they needed. Lambda Sigma Upsilon recently celebrated 30 years.
