More groups to be at student expo

Kean University will be holding their annual Spring Student Group Expo on Thursday, Feb. 6 at the University Center.
The Student Group Expo will begin at 12 p.m. and will last until 4:30 p.m. The event will feature a variety of student clubs on campus.
Strawberry Gallagher, a Graduate Assistant in the Student Involvement Center, explained some general information about the upcoming Student Group Expo for this semester.
“Kean has a Student Group Expo every spring and takes part in Campus Awareness, which plays the same role as an expo in the fall for the New Student Orientation,” said Gallagher. “It is a smaller scaled version of Campus Awareness, but it is open to all students.”
This year more clubs that will be promoting their organizations. Gallagher explained the number of groups that will be participating in this event.
“With the new layout, we are permitted a maximum of 26 groups funded and non-funded groups. Greek Letter Organizations are not permitted because they participate in Meet the Greeks instead,” said Gallagher.
She also provided a list of the names of each of the organizations that will be present for the event. The clubs focus on areas such as religion, science, magazine writing, law and health.
According to Gallagher, the clubs that students will learn about and meet are Kean University’s Gay Alliance Reformation (KUGAR), Kean Gospel Choir, Campus Crusade for Christ, Pre Law Society and Operation Smile. Kean Cru, Her Campus Kean, Catholic Newman Club, Alpha and Omega International Student Association, PASU (Pan-African Student Union), Thrift Nation, Kean University Council for Exceptional Children, Student Alliance on Mental Illness and Biotechnology Club.
Second-year Kean student Angelica Prendez explained her perspective on one of the benefits of having this event. She also explained her opinion about the publicizing of this event.
“I think it’s a great event. I didn’t even know about it. Maybe they should advertise it more,” said Prendez. “I think it’s awesome that they have event like this so students can get more involved.”
Gallagher explained a few of the benefits for having the expo. She describes the benefits for both the clubs and students at Kean as well.
“Groups are able to recruit new members and spread awareness about their groups. The Student Group Expo takes place in the University Center atrium, and it is an ideal place to attract students to different groups and becoming involved in different organizations,” said Gallagher.
“The Student Group Expo that serves as a platform for the many student involvement opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students,” said Gallagher. “Student groups are able to show their past achievements, presence on campus, and future plans, as well as recruit new members that share a common interest.”
If you would like to attend this event, you can drop by the University Center. The event will be for a few hours, leaving time to make your rounds at each of the organization’s tables and meet their leaders.
