Off-Campus shooting leaves Kean student injured

A Kean University student was shot and wounded at an off campus frat party on Friday, when a man who was previously thrown out of the party returned to the house with a gun and started firing.
The shooting took place at a Sigma Theta Chi house on Conant St in Hillside at 2:15 a.m. The victim was only identified as an 18 or 19 year old Kean student by Hillside Police, according to the Star Ledger.
The police told the Star Ledger that the shooter had got into an argument and a physical altercation before he left the residence. He later returned to the house with a handgun and fired multiple shots into the house, while people were standing on the porch and front lawn.
A Kean student who was across the street while the shooting occurred saw some of what transpired.
“It was the end of the party” the student, who did not want to be identified, said. “I was leaving the party and I heard shots behind and I turned around and someone was shooting into the house.”
“I saw the sparks from the gun, the flash. I don’t know the exact amount of shots he fired but it was more than five.”
The wounded student was taken to the University Hospital in Newark where he was in stable condition.
Authorities say they do not believe the shooter is a student at Kean.
Hillside police are collaborating with Kean University police for the investigation.
