Public’s help needed in ID-ing two men who stole car from campus

Two men allegedly stole a car and tampered with another yesterday during the early morning hours in the Vaughn Eames parking lot, Kean University Police said.

Surveillance video shows two men — one of who apparently had a limp on his left side — breaking into a black, four-door 1999 Volkswagen Jetta at approximately 1:30 a.m., campus police said in an e-mail blast sent to all faculty, staff and students last night.

The two men then drove the car off campus via Morris Avenue westbound into Union Township, campus police said. The car has a New Jersey license plate which reads E88EKK, a long scratch on the passenger side and only one hubcap on the front driver’s side, campus police said.

Around the same time, surveillance cameras also captured the same two men attempting to enter a 2002 Volkswagen Passat which was also in the Vaughn Eames parking lot. The vehicle was left with the driver side front door lock and ignition pried open, police said.

The surveillance video or pictures of the two men were not made available.

Campus police advise students to lock their vehicles, keep anything of value in cars out of plain view and to call University Police as soon as they see something suspicious. A new mobile phone app known as ELERTS can also alert campus police to any suspicious activity and provide individuals with a virtual escort.
