Editor-in-Chief Kevin Modeszto- Kevin Modeszto is a sophomore majoring in Communications-Journalism. His creative writing teacher in high school and senior year Journalism teacher helped him find his love for writing and Kean’s Professor Kolbenschlag inspired him to pursue Journalism. His future plans are to write for a newspaper, with a dream of making it as a NASCAR reporter.
Features Editor Susan Berube- Susan is a junior majoring in double majors: English and Journalism. She has always been passionate about writing, representing marginalized populations, and being transparent. Her future plans are to attend graduate school at Kean, intern with more non-profit organizations and potentially governmental institutions, she wants to get her EDD in Educational Leadership and go on to either work in government, a non-profit, or in a higher-education position. Susan is determined to continue her passion of being a beacon of hope for others and assisting marginalized populations.
News Editor Hajar Lababidi- Hajar is a sophomore majoring in double majors: Journalism and Political Science. Her interest in journalism sparked during an elementary school career day when a visiting reporter had the students write their own ideas. Hajar was struck by how natural the process felt and her future seemed bright. To Hajar, journalism represents a way to engage closely with those systems while remaining independent from them and she knew that journalism is work that she could certainly see herself doing. Her future plans are to pursue international policy reporting that examines how governments operate behind closed doors. She prefers an adaptable career where she can follow breaking news while engaging directly with people.
Sports Editor David Macaulay-Smith- David is a senior majoring in Communications-Journalism. Writing and sports have always been his passions, and bringing the two together allowed him to turn what he enjoys most into something meaningful and purposeful. In the future, he wants to continue growing as a sports journalist by covering teams at a higher level and telling stories that go beyond the box score. His goal is to work in professional sports media, build meaningful relationships within the industry, and create content that informs, engages, and inspires fans.
Staff Photographer Enrique Medel- Enrique is a junior majoring in Communications-Journalism. Since Enrique’s passion is writing and photography, he realized he could use those passions to show others the vibrant experience within communities. He yearns to share detailed information from ongoing events that gives readers clear understanding of events as a photojournalist. In the future, he wishes to take all his experience into any newsletter field that are interested in his profession, but also managing his photography business career.
Fulltime Reporters:
Rashan Addison- Rashan is a senior majoring in Communications-Journalism. His love for sports and writing sparked his interest in journalism. He dreams of becoming a writer for Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN) or for a professional sports organization.
Isabella Cobo- Isabella is a junior majoring in Communication-Journalism. She loves all types of writing, from free writing to keeping people informed of current events. Isabella would love to work for the New York Times in the future.
Nick Hathaway- Nick is a junior majoring in Communications-Journalism. His interest in journalism started when he saw injustice in the form of laziness taking root in our politics nowadays. He has spoken out about the unfair justice system and how intolerable their behavior is. His plan is to do independent journalism and hopes to join a specific news broadcasting station that focuses on humanitarian issues. Most notable, Nick writes a weekly column about the global and local market.
Michael Kurtz- Michael is a junior majoring in Communications-Journalism. He enjoys doing sports broadcasting and that field introduced him to the world of journalism and his dream is to be a sports broadcaster after college.
Michael Matthews- Michael is a sophomore majoring in Communications-Journalism. Since he was young, he has always been interested in politics and current events, which sparked his interest in pursuing journalism. His future plans is to gain employment so that he can be more involved in journalism. Most notably, Michael writes a weekly column covering Governor Mikie Sherrill’s administration.
Michael Mayhew- Michael is a junior majoring in Communications-Journalism. His interest in journalism sparked within writing consistently and doing intensive research. His future plans is to get a great newsletter job once he graduates.
Denny Quinteros- Denny is a junior majoring in Communications-Journalism. Growing up, Denny enjoyed watching soccer and reading articles, from there his love for journalism started. Denny dreams of working with the Red Bulls or somewhere in Major League Soccer.
Myles Robinson- Myles is a senior majoring in Communications-Journalism. He enjoyed watching Sports Center when he was younger, which led him to the path of journalism. He plans on becoming a media/news personality, engaging in informative and entertaining content.
Melanie Seepersad- Melanie is a junior majoring in Communications-Journalism. Since she was young, she always watched the news with her father and it built a fascination about current events around the world, not just in America. She also enjoys writing in her free time, as writing has always been a form of therapy for her. She hopes to get a social media internship for any platform or brand, as she excels in writing and layout design. From there, she looks forward to becoming a publishing author or a news reporter.
Jordan Thomas- Jordan is a senior majoring in Communications-Journalism. Being involved in sports more closely inspired Jordan to pursue journalism. In the future, he would love to be a sports announcer or a statistician.
Volunteer Reporters:
Cassandra Kossowsky- Cassandra is a junior majoring in English. She has always loved to write, with a particular passion for creative writing. Cassandra is dabbling in journalistic writing for the first time, and hopes to use journalism as a vehicle to make information more accessible to ordinary people.
Meadow Orange- Meadow is a junior majoring in Communications-Public Relations. She expresses the open field that Journalism gives her where she can truly express her creativity as well as sharing her ideas and turning them into her own. In the future, she dreams of working with a gym brand and helping athletes express their passion for fitness. Whether it be a run club or helping a client to better their fitness journey, Meadow wants to build a strong community and help create their own collaboration with her own gym brand.
Kristen Sparacio- Kristen is a music student pursuing her graduate degree. Kristen has a love for all things music, and plans to use journalism as a vessel to share all things Kean Music Department related with a larger audience.
