Student Government application deadline approaches

The Kean University office of Student Government is currently taking applications for Student Organization, Graduate and Part-time Student Council, and funded groups; in which many positions are given compensation. The mission of the student government is to enhance the academic, social and cultural experiences of the campus community.

Positions include: Class President, Vice President, Vice President of Programming, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Director of Public Relations, and Class Representatives. To be considered a candidate, students must complete an online application via Cougar Link’s Office of Student Government by March 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.

Candidates for president, vice president, or treasure must have completed at least 56 credits with at least 12 of those at Kean.

For associate secretary, at least 24 credits must be completed. However, no more than 70 credits can be earned; including those in progress.

Senior council requires 90 credits, Junior council requires 56 credits, but no more than 89.5. The Sophomore council requires 29 credits, but no more than 55.5. Lastly, freshmen require 28.5 credits, according to Carli Hench managing assistant director of Student Government.

All candidates must have an accumulated GPA of at least 2.5. For funded groups, any Kean University student can apply.

However, for students who wish to cast their vote for their class’s Executive Board members must do so through Cougar Link. Elections will take place at 9:00 a.m. on April 5, 2017 and conclude at 6:00 p.m. on April 6, 2017.

For Funded Group elections, students must visit the group’s homepage. Students who are voting for their Executive Board Members, must require the proper amount of credits of their academic year.

To vote for the Student Organization’s members, students must be a full-time, undergraduate student. In order to vote for Graduate and Part-time Council, applicants must be a full-time graduate or part-time undergraduate student. For Funded Groups, only individuals listed on the group’s roster may vote.
