With classes out of session, summer gives students an opportunity to relax, explore new places, and prepare for the future. Whether you’re looking to travel, spend time with loved ones, gain professional experience, or set new goals, here are four ways to make the most of your summer break.
Travel Somewhere New

Summer is a great time for students to visit new places and spend time with family and friends. With beautiful weather and months off school, it’s a perfect time to get away.
“I’m going to Miami at the end of July, and then in August I’m traveling to Europe, where I’ll be visiting Spain, France, and Italy,” said Daniella Marin, a public relations major
Whether students are taking a weekend trip or traveling overseas, summer provides an opportunity to step away from the classroom and explore new destinations.
Spend Time with Friends and Family
After a busy academic year, summer can be an opportunity to reconnect with the people who matter the most.
“I will be traveling to North Carolina, going to the Pocono Mountains, and hanging out with friends and family,” said Jayden Andrews, a media and film major.
Many students use the summer months to spend more time with loved ones, attend family gatherings, and enjoy activities that can be difficult to fit into a busy semester schedule.
Building Your Resume

Summer is also a valuable time to gain professional experience and develop new skills.
Meadow Orange, a public relations major, said she plans to focus on professional development throughout the summer.
“I am working on getting certifications in marketing and PR while also learning more about the field and attending events,” Orange said.
Orange is also working full time while searching for internship opportunities and participating in research studies. Taking on internships, jobs, certifications, and other professional opportunities can help students prepare for future careers while gaining valuable experience.
Setting Goals
Summer is a great time to think about goals for the upcoming academic year and areas for personal growth.
“I am looking forward to being more involved on campus, and I want to join clubs and make new friends,” Marin said.
Marin said she also hopes to save money, stay on top of her fitness goals, and spend less time doomscrolling on social media.
Orange hopes to become more involved on campus through clubs and organizations while continuing to network, complete certifications, and prepare for graduate school.
Whether students spend their summer traveling, spending time with family, gaining experience, or working toward personal goals, the break offers an opportunity to recharge and prepare for the fall semester.
