For some students at Kean University, March 28 was as if Christmas had come early. The reason being, the 2019 Major League Baseball season is officially underway. Excitement is high as the league kicks off its 150th season.

“I’ve had opening day marked on my calendar since my Yankees lost last season,” said Tyler Olivieri, a junior majoring in communication studies. “I’m looking forward to attending as many games as possible.”

Yankees fans are beyond optimistic about what they expect to see from the Bronx Bombers this season. Melany Guerrero, a sophomore majoring in speech therapy, believes the Yanks will win the World Series.

“My expectations are for the Yankees to make it to the World Series and win it all,” said Guerrero.

When asked, media and film major John Mastice pointed to Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge as the player he is most excited to watch in 2019.

“I think he’s going to win MVP,” said Mastice. “He’s had a huge spring training and I think he’s going to take it to another level this year.”

Nick Tedesco, a junior majoring in public relations, is ready for Queens’ baseball team to have a great season. While he doesn’t think the Mets will make the playoffs, it still won’t stop his enthusiasm about the 2019 season.

“Having baseball back is special because I can actually be at Citi Field watching the Mets play again,” said Tedesco. “It feels like Christmas to me.”

Tedesco has his eye on Mets all-star Michael Conforto. He believes the outfielder will build off of a solid second half in 2018 and carry the Mets in the 2019 season by putting up quality numbers.

“He had a healthy offseason,” Tedesco said. “He can hit 35 home runs, drive in over 100 runs, and bat .315.”
