As New Jersey continues to open up and an increase of vaccinations are being administered, as of April 19, there have been 2.5 million people that have been fully vaccinated in New Jersey according to governor Phil Murphy. Due to this, Kean hopes to have fans attending sporting events in the future.

With the COVID-19 virus still going around, Kean student, Jaison Roach, a junior majoring in biology health, believes the university will create a proper plan to have fans at future games.

“Kean will most likely have a limit to how many people can enter the games and they will arrange the seating in a way that they can social distance,” Roach said. “They can also check the temperature of each attendant to make sure no one is sick.”

Currently, Kean has a policy created where only two parents or guardians of the athletes will be permitted to attend games. Parents must wear a mask at all times and maintain social distancing from all non household members.

Roach says that he sees himself going to future games.

“I could see myself attending a few of the games but it’s still good to try to wear a mask and social distance just to be safe,” Roach said.

Like Roach, sophomore Victoria Cifelli, a communications major, also sees herself attending games.

“I would definitely attend a few games if capacity limits allowed,” Cifelli said.

Capacity limits will be different when it comes to the different sports, where outdoor sports will be able to have more people compared to the indoor sports.

“I think there would be a capacity limit for certain sports, especially ones that are held indoors,” Cifelli said. “I feel like there will be less of a restriction for lacrosse or football, which are more often held outside.”

Despite the number of vaccinations going up in New Jersey, Roach believes that there still will not be a full capacity crowd at games.

“I doubt that the pandemic will be over, and they’ll have 100% capacity games,” Roach said.

Cifelli also believes that there will not be a full capacity crowd at games, but she does believe Kean will do everything they can to keep everyone safe who attends games.

“I think social distancing and wearing masks will still need to be in place to keep the Kean community safe at these games,” Cifelli said.
