iPhone 13’s lineup is divided into four devices: iPhone 13 Mini, regular iPhone 13, the 13 Max, and the 13 Pro Max. It comes with a series of improvements from their 2020 counterparts. Such as: Camera, capacity, display, chipset, battery, and price.

According to Apple, the biggest upgrade of the iPhone 13 is their most advanced dual-camera system yet, adding a TrueDepth camera software to the front one. The new selfie camera includes a stronger facial ID, portrait, night mode, and also a more professional look in images.

To provide further development to the way videos are created, iPhone 13 back camera features a brand-new Cinematic Mode. According to Apple, in cinematic mode videos can be effortlessly created to look like movies.

Certainly, this new camera upgrade can come in very handy for students who venture into film-making projects.

“I will find great purpose in the all-new Cinematic Mode,” said Diego Gonzalez, a communications major student at Kean University.

Previous iPhones versions started with a data storage capacity of 128GB, while the new addition version can store up to 512 GB to 1 TB.

The new model comes with a 20% smaller notch, compared to previous versions. According to Apple’s website, the notch is the area where the selfie camera and the face scanner are fitted.

Another big improvement only for the Pro versions is the refresh rate. While last year’s Pro models were stuck to 60Hz, the upcoming ones clock up 120Hz. The same could not be said for the Mini and regular iPhone 13’s, which are left with the same refresh rate as their 2020 counterparts – 60Hz.

Also, the newest iPhone 13 features, an all-new A15 Bionic 15 processor. Apple explained that it’s a game-changing chip. It is 50% faster than the competition CPUs and can load graphics up 30%.

The battery in this year’s model is also longer lasting than its predecessor, providing between 1.5 up to 2.5 hours more battery life than their 2020 counterparts.

As for the one very important detail to every iPhone release is its price. According to Apple, the iPhone 13 mini goes from $699 to $999, while the regular goes from $799 up to $1099. For the Pro version the prices start at $999 up to $1,499 for the 1TB, and for the Pro Max starting from $1,099 and reaching $1,599 for the 1TB storage capacity version as well.

Students will face a dilemma asking themselves, whether they should buy or not the new iPhone 13. While for one group it would be a no-brainer to pull the trigger on the new iPhone 13, a second one might question if there is a need to upgrade.

Kayla Reyes, an English Secondary Education major, falls in the second group saying she is not ready to upgrade. “I think it’s very similar to the 11 and 12.” Reyes, said. “A lot of the upgrades are unnecessary to me.”

On the other hand, with a new phone comes a better stability, that’s the reason of Nayely Morales, a History major student. “When I get the new iPhone I won’t have to worry about malfunctions” Morales, said.

Now it’s time for the big question, do you agree with Kayla and won’t upgrade? Or would you side with Nayely and impatiently wait for you new iPhone to be delivered to your doorstep?
