Major snow storm closes Kean campus

On March 6, Kean police sent a campus-wide notification stating the campus was closed on March 7 due to another major snowstorm.

Kean police sent out two phone calls, and two emails to notify all Kean staff, faculty and students the university was closed. In comparison to the last nor’easter notification, Kean students are much more satisfied with the earlier notification.

“I hope everyone is safe! The advisements were sent out in a timely manner. Kean police advised me two times with alerts and I am pretty sure everyone else got the same. With all the snow that we got it will make it harder for students to travel and come to class and for me. Professors live far and have to travel as well,” said Undergraduate Communication major Tiara Muslim.

“Yes, the advisory was definitely sent out in a timely fashion! Nice and early since it was sent out the day before. This gave us adequate time to prepare. I feel as though this has affected my classmates positively because we get to stay in, and study more and socialize! My suggestions are for the police to continue to to notify students and staff of advisories the day before,” Undergraduate Finance major Giovanna Dessein said.

“I think Kean’s police advisory was sent on time! Phil Murphy  declared New Jersey in a state of emergency so it was effective that Kean took its precautions. I really wonder how parking at Kean will be for the next couple of weeks! It will definitely be hectic and people have to come on campus even earlier that the usual,” said Undergraduate Early Childhood Special Education major Elsy Muñoz.

“It’s always great to have a day off especially around midterm time. I do think the Kean police sent out their emails one timely manner and thoroughly. As for my classmates this weather may have pushed back some test that students were ready for but like I said everyone enjoys a day off. My suggestion for Kean police would be to update us…in regards to weather, plowing of pathways and parking lots and updates…,” said Undergraduate Psychology major Jenna Piecyk.

Kean’s police and staff have been working arduously to keep the Kean campus clean of snow and convenient enough for Kean faculty, staff and students to travel in and out of campus.
