Friday’s Nor’easter caused Kean University to cancel all classes and events from 3:30 pm onward due to hazardous weather conditions on March 2nd.

Commuters were guided by Kean police to drive off campus while on-campus students returned to their dorms.

An email blast was sent to all Kean faculty, staff, and students to notify them of the storm approaching. Some students say it was too late of a notice while others are glad it came in a timely manner.

“I honestly felt the advisory was put into place way too late…this was unfortunate for a lot of people because driving in that weather was horrendous…the school should have let us out much earlier…the winds were outrageous and looked like a miniature blizzard and hurricane,” Undergraduate Finance major Giovanna Dessein said.

“Being on-campus during the storm was very scary with winds and rain and hail…The weather advisory was informative but I feel the University should have closed sooner as the weather was clearly very bad,” said Undergraduate Psychology major Jenna Piecyk.

“I tried to stay inside and not outdoors. I was inside my dorm room for the duration of the storm. It was so windy my umbrella broke,” said Undergraduate Communication major Tiara Muslim.

“I thought it was great they cancelled all night classes because the wind was going to become worse in the afternoon and night time! It’s awesome that universities place their students’ safety first, it truly means a lot”,” said Undergraduate Early Childhood Special Education major Elsy Muñoz.

Kean’s community was one of the many communities affected by the storm.
